We may own personal phones, but is it truly our own ? Mobile carriers as well as the phone vendor add bloatware and prevent us from some further customizations. Jailbreaking an iOS device allows you to customize your iOS device truly to your liking. So, whether you are an advanced user who likes to tinker with their iPhone, iPod or iPad or a casual user, if you want to jailbreak your iOS, then read on.
Before we proceed, here’s a little more information. Jailbreaking is totally legal, although it may sound shady. It’s your iOS device and you can do whatever you like. You must know however that it voids the warranty of your iPhone, iPod or iPad.
Disclaimer: Jailbreaking your iOS device can go wrong. Follow the instructions at your own risk. We cannot be held responsible for any damage or loss of information you might incur.
So, now that we got the disclaimer out of our way, let’s get hacking.
Step 0: Compatibility
The following guide is for iOS 9.2 – iOS 9.3.3 64 bit operating systems. If you’re not on the latest firmware version, update your device as you normally do. The 64-bit devices are the latest iPod touch, the iPhone 5S and higher, iPad Air and higher along with the iPad Mini 2 or higher and the iPad Pro.
Step 1: Backup
We care for you. Create a full backup of your device, so if anything goes sideways, you can just restore your device to its previous glory using this backup. Connect your device to a computer and perform a full iTunes sync.
Step 2: Turn off Find My iPhone
Go to iCloud in Settings and switch off Find My iPhone to prevent your iPhone, iPad or iPod from phoning back home.
Settings > iCloud
Step 3: Get the installer
Download the installer from Pangu’s official website. It’s in Chinese as of now. But an English version is in the works.
Step 4: Run the downloaded installer
Run the pphelper installer. It installs the PP 5.0 tool. Click on Next when everything finishes. Then click the green button to download the additional components. It is needed.
Step 5: Enter fake credentials
You might be needed to enter an Apple ID. If the case may be, then enter fake credentials. This Apple ID will be used to sign the jailbreaking app. Click the green button and wait for the app to load. Again press the green button to continue.
Step 6: Trust
A new page related to device management will appear for confirmation. Tap on Trust > Trust to accept and finish loading the jailbreak app.
Step 7: Launch the app
Go back to the home screen of your iPhone, iPod or iPad and tap on the jailbreak app to fire it. Also, don’t forget to enable Notifications when asked.
Step 8: Lock
Tap on the circle on the screen to lock your iPhone, iPod or iPad. I would advise patience when your iOS device restarts.
Step 9: Customize away!
Now unlock your device and you can see the Cydia app on your home screen. Congratulations! Customize your iPhone, iPad or iPad to your liking.
