Verizon has never said officially that they’re updating the DROID DNA to Android 4.2, and yet the company has just made a page live on their website which details everything to expect from the next update. In a nutshell, the update should bring your average DNA owner’s experience more in line with that of the HTC One.
Sense will be getting an update to 5.0 with a new calendar, smart dialer and contacts app. Video highlights will feature in the new gallery app also – but there’s no Zoes here unfortunately. Blinkfeed will be arriving on the DNA too, which displays news sources and social feeds all in one place on the homescreen for you to peruse whilst waiting in line or during lulls in conversation. It’s kind of a love-it-or-hate-it type affair, as it does quite a good job of consolidating your news sources but the widget isn’t removable from the homescreen.
The other welcome addition is that of the quick settings in the notification panel, which as the name suggests gives users quicker access to essential settings like WiFi, Bluetooth and brightness.
Interestingly, HTC President Jason MacKenzie said recently on Twitter that HTC is working hard to deliver Android 4.3 to both the HTC One and DROID DNA by September’s end. Whether we’ll see Verizon push the 4.2 update first or skip straight to 4.3 is anyone’s guess, but we’ll update you as soon as we hear some more news.
