If you’re a little confused by the 516 part, it’s ok, no one knows exactly how HTC decides to name its devices since there already is a Desire 816, and now the company decided to create a Desire 516.
The device weights 173 grams and it measures 140 x 72 x 9.7 mm, and it comes with a 5-inch display that has 540 x 960 pixels. It features a quad-core 1.3 GHz processor, 5MP back camera with LED flash and a frontal VGA camera, 512 MB of RAM and it comes with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean.
In terms of design, the device doesn’t do better or even as good as the Desire 816 or Desire 610, but given the specs, it’s safe to assume it will be a budget phone. HTC already announced that it will start focusing on mid-end and low-end markets this year, and for the customers that expect high-end devices they will launch the All New One device. The device is expected to become part of HTC’s global low-end smartphone offer, but there is no word yet about whether the device will actually be launched in any region outside of China.
Later, it was discovered that the phone will come in 2 versions: Desire 516t which has the above specs, and Desire 516w which runs Android 4.3 and comes with 1GB of RAM and a 1.2 GHz quad-core CPU.
Since there still is a lot of time left, it’s safe to assume, that during this year we might encounter another or even more budget phone(s) from HTC, if that happens, we can only hope that HTC won’t have a delayed release in other regions like it has with the HTC Desire 516 (if it will ever be released in other regions).
Now that you had a look at the slideshow and you saw the phone’s specs, what do you think about this device? Does any of the two versions look like a decent budget phone to you, or both versions are just another drop in the ocean?
